Use of Article (The)

The को Definite Article कहते हैं। इसका प्रयोग उस Noun के पहले होता है जो खास, निश्चित या पूर्वपरिचित हो; जिसकी चर्चा पहले हो चुकी हो तथा वक्ता और श्रोता जिससे भली- भांति परिचित हों।  Example- He is a boy.  तो यहां 'boy' से ' किसी लड़के ' का बोध होता है। But, he is the boy.  तो यहां 'boy' से ' किसी खास लड़के ' का बोध होता है। जिससे वक्ता और श्रोता पहले से परिचित हो। अर्थात् निश्चित पदार्थ/व्यक्ति/जानवर का बोध कराने के लिए 'the' का प्रयोग होता है। The का प्रयोग countable noun (singular & plural) और uncountable noun के साथ होता है, बशर्ते कि उक्त noun से निश्चित nouns का बोध होता हो। 1. The का प्रयोग पूरी जाति का बोध कराने के लिए singular countable noun के पहले होता है। पूरी जाति का बोध कराने के लिए general/universal sense में plural noun के पहले the का प्रयोग नहीं होता है। The cow gives milk.
